Taraira Gold Exploration Project – Southeastern Colombia
Location
The Taraira North Gold Concession ('Taraira North') is situated in the Department of Vaupes in southeastern Colombia. The concession lies in relatively flat amazonas terrain at elevations approximately 100 - 200 meters above sea level. Taraira North is accessible by air to the village of Taraira, a distance of approximately six hundred kilometres south east of Bogota, the capital of Colombia.
Description
As a result of a lengthy competitive bidding process, Taraira North was awarded to the Cosigo Frontier by way of a contract with the Instituto Columbiano de Geologia y Minera ('Ingeominas'). The concession encompasses 9,973 hectares immediately west of the Rio Taraira which forms the Brazilian border in this region.
Geology
Taraira North is located at the far southwestern edge of the Neblina Basin, a fore-arc basin which encompasses a large area of Brazil, Guyana and Colombia. Sedimentary strata underlying the concession and hosting gold mineralization are described as folded and weakly metamorphosed Meso - to Paleo-Proterozoic Roraima-like sequences.
